G-C House and Studio, Iluka

A House and Studio concept design for a couple moving towards their retirement. Arranged around a courtyard, the house and studio can either be occupied as two separate spaces or opened up as one larger family house. This allows the client great flexibility of use in both the short and longer terms. Both house and studio have their own private north-facing living and outdoor spaces. They are connected with a linear carport / workshop building along western edge of the courtyard. Together with street trees and landscaping, this provides protection and privacy to the courtyard and allows some filtering / control of the micro climate within the courtyard and the house through a range of passive design techniques. Perched above the courtyard, facing north, the main living areas and the roof terrace also offer views to the river and the ocean.
